The splendid 25-year-old M.Chinnaswamy Stadium located in serene, scenic settings,
right in the heart of the city, flanked by the lovely Cubbon Park on one side and
M. G. Road on the other. The stadium was constructed on land secured from the Government
of Karnataka.

In fact, it is with the active assistance and patronage of the then Government of
Karnataka, and successive Governments since then, the stadium is today acknowledged
as one of the finest in the country. For this, the Karnataka State Cricket Association
(K.S.C.A) is deeply grateful.

It boasts of a seating capacity of 50,000, and offers state of the art facilities
for players and the press. The Board of Control for Cricket in India found it fit
to house the National Cricket Academy in the Chinnaswamy stadium. The NCA boasts
of an impressive indoor training facility with the finest equipment available to
promising youngsters. In addition, the stadium complex has badminton courts, swimming
pool, health club, gymnasium and residential rooms, for the benefit of members.

This spectacular stadium has staged many a memorable match. It has been witness
to 12 Test matches and 10 One Day Internationals including 2 World Cup matches (1987
Reliance Cup and the 1996 Wills World Cup.) Numerous Ranji Trophy, state level and
local club matches successfully and has become a beehive of cricketing activity
in the state.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association has embarked on an ambitious plan of upgrading
the existing facility by increasing the seating capacity to 70,000 and enhancing
the conveniences to spectators across the stadium. Work is underway and Bangaloreans
can look forward to matchless infrastructure in the near future. |
