Do not go with ADT. They are the epitome of bait and switch con artists and are not the least bit transparent with their sales, service, or promises. After doing quite a bit of research into home security systems I was referred to ADT. After speaking with a sales representative and being completely up front and honest on my end, the sales person completely lied about the equipment that would be provided, the cost of the monitoring service, AND even the offer of the referral and gifts cards with their deal. First off, they will charge you an up front $99 to install, plus charge tax on that, even before you get a technician to conduct the review to set up the system. Then, the promise of equipment – they promise “pre wired” door and window sensors, however this only actually applies if you have an existing security system and all sensors are wireless anyway, so really they offer 7 wireless sensors $129 per additional sensor. They will bait you on by saying “a manager is on and will work with you to approve this” – don’t believe it, as you’ll never hear from that manager ever again, even when you have his/her manager id number. Then there’s the monitoring service – they offer $27. 99/mo but that’s only if you have a land phone line in your home. Including the warranty on the equipment that is supposed to be $36. 99, but again they claim it’s only if you have a land line.

Plus, there’s two way audio, cloud and local storage, and integrations with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, and Stringify. We’ve already talked a lot about Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, but what about IFTTT and Stringify?Well, IFTTT is a free service that allows apps and devices from different companies to work with each other. With IFTTT, you can create dozens of home automations, like having your camera record when one of your entry sensors goes off, for example Stringify is another automation service that could help connect all of your smart home devices. With all of these options at hand, Arlo makes it super easy to create a connected and convenient home. Not only will you be able to command the camera with your voice, but you can also link your camera up with other smart home devices to create some convenient home automations. For example, you could set your smart light bulbs to go off whenever your camera is armed, and you can have them turn back on the moment your camera is disarmed. The possibilities are endless, which is why integrations with either Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant is a Security Baron Necessary Feature. Extra points for integrations with both Amazon and Google, or even the third most popular smart home platform, Apple HomeKit.
